Palampur is a quiet and peaceful hill station
located in Himachal Pradesh. It is surrounded by tea estates and forests of
pine and deodar. The tea gardens of Palampur are a sight to behold. It is a
place for everyone. You can do paragliding and trekking for adventure. Temples
and monasteries are peace to the soul. Photography lovers would love the place
for it is naturally a very beautiful tourist destination. Palampur is at a
distance of 40 km from Dharamshala and 38 km from Kangra.

Baijnath is a ‘Nagara’ style stone temple built
by two local merchants in 1204 AD. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The
Lingam here also known as Vidyanath is one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India. It
is open on all days for the pilgrims.
Chamunda Devi temple is dedicated to Goddess
Chamunda. The place is covered with the Dhauladhar mountains. Banganga which is
tributary of Beas flows alongside the temple. The walls of the temple are
painted and colored with scenes from Mahabharata and Ramayana. Chamunda Devi
Temple is maintained under the banners of the Archaeological Survey of India
(ASI) to preserve its cultural charm.
Bir is located 35 km away from Palampur and is
known for Buddhist monasteries and Tibetan handicrafts. It is also a playground
for paragliders. Billing is only 14 km from Bir. This place is situated at a high
altitude. This place is best visited between February to June and from
September to November.
Palampur is also known as the Tea capital of Northern India. You can see tea gardens spread on either side of the street once you enter Palampur. You can also visit the Palampur Co-operative Tea Factory Limited, which is placed downhill from Palampur. The aroma of tea gardens is mesmerizing. Dhauladhar Nature Park is at a 13km travel from
Palampur. It is also known as Gopalpur Zoo. It is rich in flora and fauna with
a mini zoo. You can see Leopards, black bear, red fox, a variety of deer,
Asiatic lion, and Angora. It has been set up and looked after by the wildlife
department of the Himachal Pradesh Government. The best time to visit this
place is from April to June in summer and from November to February in
winter.
